Higher Diploma in Sports Therapy
Sports therapy encompasses a wide range of skills and knowledge to underpin competency in assessing and treating people, both in the sporting and clinical environments. A sports therapist will be proficient in helping people of all ages recover from injuries and sporting conditions, and return to any previous level of activity with minimal risk of further injury. This often entails guiding a person beyond being able to carry out normal daily activities, and back to being able to perform complex actions under differing types of physical duress.
> Entry Requirements
To attain this award you must have already completed all five modules shown in our L5 VTCT Sports Massage Awardor equivalent, comprising:
- Sports Injuries Upper Body
- Sports Injuries Lower Body
- Gait Analysis
- Neuro-Spinal Assessment & Treatment (3 Days)
- Advanced Soft Tissue Techniques
Other eligible applicants may include Foundation Degree and Full Honours Degree graduates allied to healthcare with clear evidence of the above, and other professions such as Osteopaths, Chiropractors, etc.

Recognition and Awards
Upon successfully completing all elements of our course you will receive
Higher Diploma in Sports Therapy by Sports Therapy UK
helping demonstrate a higher standing as an experienced practitioner.
> Course Syllabus, Structure and Duration
To attain our Higher Diploma you must achieve the 5 core modules above plus 2 further modules shown below:
- Taping for Sport
- Injury Rehabilitation and Exercise Therapy
You must attend all 7 modules over a period of no more than 24 months from attending your first module. This allows an additional 6 months to the L5 VTCT Sports Massage Award to complete the 2 modules above. Our flexible award programme allows you to attend the modules in any order. During each of the modules, observations of your skills will be recorded towards your final assessment.
You will also be required to complete a clinical assessment within 3 months of completing your practical training - see below.

> Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) and Module Exemptions
If you have already completed modules that may contribute to our Higher Diploma Sports Therapy qualification and you wish to apply for an exemption, please forward evidence to support your claim for ‘recognised prior learning’ (RPL) and we will respond accordingly. Please note that copy certificates or educational transcripts, plus the associated syllabus for each topic will be required. They must show the awarding body, level, title, and date.
Modules or units demonstrating knowledge and/or competency in key areas must be recognised independent educational units and not topics forming part of other modules.
> Course Assessment & Award
Upon completing both modules with observed assessments on each, you will also be rquired to complete a case study aligned to specific guidelines and learning outcomes.
Observed Assessments – you will be required to complete specific tasks during the practical training which will demonstrate your understanding of the various topics on each module.
Case Study Report - you will be required to compile a comprehensive report based on the course guidelines to show your ability to construct a rehabilitation programmme to meet the individual needs of your client.
This must be done within 3 months of attending your final module. If you are working towards the Higher Diploma in Sports Therapy, this case study supercedes the requirement for one on the L5 Sports Massage Award.

If you have completed your Level 4 training with Sports Therapy UK, please go to Loyalty and Other Discounts below.
To secure your place on the course the combined L5 Awards, please book online and submit your course registration fee of £355 which includes VTCT registration, course administration, and all first assessment fees. This registration fee is payable for either the Level 5 Sports Massage Award, The Higher Diploma in Sports Therapy, or both combined. You are not required to pay the registration fee more than once.
All modular fees may then be paid as you apply for a place on each one and are shown below. Possible retakes will be charged at the time of sitting and all course fees are non-refundable.
You must hold a recognised current Level 4 Sports Massage qualification to enrol at Level 5 – see above.
