Peter Sheard
Peter is a Lecturer in Sport, Exercise and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Luton. He is a member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and the SportsCoach UK/National Coaching Foundation (NCF.)
Peter has considerable personal experience in endurance sports as both an athlete (completing over 190 events including IronMan (Hawaii) World Triathlon Championships and Gatineau 55 World Loppet X-C Ski Marathon) and as a coach (supporting national and/or international medallists in triathlon, freediving, x-c skiing, biathlon, mountain biking and paddling).
His former occupation as a professional coach included High Performance Coach appointments with (Canadian) Provincial Sport Governing Bodies. He continues his professional development in the UK with research towards an MSc in Exercise Science (Physiology) and an MA in Science Communication.
In conjunction with his recent appointment to the British Triathlon Association as a World Class Development Coach, Peter is extending his National Coaching Certification Program (Canada) qualifications with National Governing Body coaching awards in cycling (BCF Level II), triathlon (BTA Level III) and swimming (ASA Level IV).
Peter sat on the Technical Sub-committee for the Sports Massage Association (UK) developing the 'National Curriculum' and 'Scope of Practice' to be made effective throughout the UK in January 2002. With Diabetes UK, he sits on the Sports Experts Panel as Sports Injuries Consultant. He contributes regularly to educational and consumer sports publications.
