Duration
This course is by distance learning and we recommend to allow 3 months to complete the course part-time.

Course Details
The course will give the successful graduate the knowledge and analytical skills to advise teams and individuals on their nutrition requirements in relation to sport.
The course will enable you to:
- Gain a thorough understanding of the relationship between diet and performance
- Increase your knowledge about weight management for sportspeople
- Assess your client's athlete's diet in relation to their training programme and lifestyle
- Evaluate current sports nutrition products
- Design nutrition programmes appropriate for sportspeople
- Provide sound nutritional advice based on current recommendations and incorporate that into the client's athlete's lifestyle.
It will benefit those currently working or preparing to work in the sport, fitness and leisure industries, who wish to gain a qualification in sports nutrition. The qualification is validated for Professional Indemnity Insurance.
What are the entry requirements?
To enrol on this course you must be physically able to do the work, have good communication skills and be at least 18 years of age.

Course Structure
Home Study
60 to 80 study hours
When you enrol on your course you will be sent the course text book, "The Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition" by Anita Bean and a food diary. Instructions will provide you with the guidance on how to proceed with your study and complete the assignments.
The programme is designed to give you a working knowledge of and practical skills in sports nutrition. The course material and tuition is based on the latest available research on sports nutrition. You will learn how to translate the science in to practical nutritional advice, and tailor it to the individual athlete.
Once you have completed your assignments you will be eligible and ready to sit the written theory examination.

Anita Bean is one of the UK's most respected nutritionists and award-winning authors. She has written 12 best-selling books, broadcasts regularly on TV and radio, contributes to numerous newspapers and magazines, presents seminars and provides a consultancy for corporate clients. Author of course text, The Complete Guide to Sports Nutrition.
Assignments & Examinations
Dietary Analysis
You will be asked to keep a diary of your food intake for a week and to analyse the content and values of your diet.
Case Study
You will be required to compile a detailed case study based on the information learned. This should be submitted when you sit your theory examination.
Theory Examinations
When you are ready to submit your case study you may apply to sit the theory examination on any of the dates offered in January, May, or September each year. (This may be taken at the University of Bedordshire or with a local invigilator). The examination lasts 1 hour and is based on the practical application of your subject. The pass mark is 65%.
Course Completion
All elements of your course must be passed no later than 9 months after enrolment.
Certificate
Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded the Certificate in Sports Nutrition by Sports Therapy UK. You will be eligible to offer nutritional advice in a safe and professional manner and must abide by our professional code of ethics. You will also be eligible for and must have Professional Indemnity Insurance before commencing practice. If you already have an existing policy for sports therapy, this skill may be added to your existing policy. Full information is available on under Insurance.
